Del Maro continues progress with G3 Zetland Stakes third

Improving two-year-old Del Maro took another step forward with a staying-on third in the G3 Night Of Thunder Zetland Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Saturday, 11 October.

Stepping up to 10 furlongs on the back of three placed efforts over a mile, the Charlie Appleby-trained colt raced in last of the eight runners initially before taking slightly closer order in seventh.

Del Maro made good headway between horses entering the final quarter-mile and briefly looked set to threaten for the lead as six horses appeared to hold chances a furlong from home.

Pierre Bonnard asserted down the stands’ rail entering the final half-furlong before going on to score by a length and a half over Endorsement. Del Maro continued to battle under Billy Loughnane, crossing the line a length further back.
