Isle Of May was caught close home when attempting to make all in the G3 Prix Sigy, with Ideal Beauty taking third as the Godolphin duo secured Black Type at Chantilly, France, on Tuesday, 20 April.
Dropping down to five and a half furlongs for the first time, Isle Of May broke smartly and was immediately sent on into a clear lead by Julien Guillochon.
The Henri-Alex Pantall-trained filly made a bold bid for home over a furlong from home and kept on after being headed by Suesa entering the final half-furlong, going down by three and a half lengths.
Ideal Beauty, representing Andre Fabre, disputed third for the majority of the race and stayed on for Mickael Barzalona to finish a length and a quarter behind Isle Of May.
Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin said: “Both Isle Of May and Ideal Beauty ran very well and we have no excuses with the winner, who looked a class above. They are both useful fillies who deserve to hopefully win a nice race at some point this year.”
