Military Order third in G2 Bahrain International Trophy
Military Order continued his consistent season on turf as he stayed on well to take third in the G2 Bahrain International Trophy on Friday, 14 November.
The Charlie Appleby-trained five-year-old had previously produced his best form on the all-weather but headed out for Bahrain’s premier race on the back of runner-up finishes in G3 races at Haydock Park and Windsor.
Settled in sixth of the eight runners for much of the 10-furlong contest, Military Order briefly looked outpaced when leader Galen kicked for home at the top of the straight.
Galen opened up a three-length advantage approaching the final furlong before being collared near the line by Royal Champion, a seven-year-old son of Shamardal who is out of a half-sister to Dubawi.
Military Order made strong late headway down the centre of the course under William Buick, grabbing third from Pride Of Arras inside the final half-furlong to go down by just over a length in total.
Charlie Appleby said: “It was a pleasing run from Military Order. Royal Champion is a very good horse and Will felt that the track didn’t quite play to our horse’s strengths. It was still another solid effort, and we will take him to Dubai for something like the Dubai Millennium Stakes.”
