Shadow Of Light bids to build on a highly promising Group-race debut when he tackles the G2 Mill Reef Stakes at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, 21 September.

The Charlie Appleby-trained juvenile, a three-parts brother to Earthlight, stayed on well to go down by three-quarters of a length to Cool Hoof Luke in the G2 Gimcrack Stakes at York’s Ebor Festival.

Shadow Of Light made a winning introduction at Yarmouth in early July and comfortably defied a penalty in a Newmarket novice race at the start of August.

Charlie Appleby said: “We have been very pleased with Shadow Of Light since the Gimcrack, when he gained some valuable experience at this level. This looks another competitive event but our horse appears to have come forward since York and, if the ground is on the slower side, it shouldn’t be an inconvenience. We go into the race with plenty of confidence.”
