Sheikh Mohammed Obaid al Maktoum, cousin of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum and one of racing's great owner breeders, has died.
His famous yellow and black silks have been carried to victory in numerous top-flight contests across the globe, from High-Rise in the Derby, to Postponed's wins in the Coronation Cup, Juddmonte International and Dubai Sheema Classic, and more recently, brilliant miler
Rosallion and his closely related G1-winning sprinter
Inisherin. Just last month, his evergreen homebred Royal Champion landed the Bahrain Trophy.
He is perhaps best known as the breeder of
Dubawi's dam Zomaradah and, more recently, Reem Three - two true blue hens of the horseracing world.
Liam O' Rourke, Director of Studs, Stallions and Breeding, said, "The passing of Sheikh Mohammed Obaid is a tremendous loss to racing and breeding.
"He has been an outstanding owner and breeder for over three decades and his contribution to the sport has been enormous.
"We send our condolences to his family, and he will be greatly missed by everyone at Godolphin."
