Silent Love shouts loudest in G3 Princess Royal Stakes

Silent Love maintained her progressive profile as she gamely made all in the G3 Princess Royal Stakes at Newmarket, UK, on Friday, 26 September.
The daughter of Dubawi was chasing a third straight win on her Group-race debut for Charlie Appleby, having followed up an all-weather maiden success in June with victory in the Listed Chalice Stakes on Newmarket’s July Course in August.
Sent forward leaving the stalls by Billy Loughnane, Silent Love raced wide initially before tacking over to establish a two-length advantage after the first quarter-mile.
Jane Temple and Miss Justice laid down strong challenges two furlongs out, with Silent Love finding more in front despite wandering under pressure. Karmology and Revoir closed strongly in the final strides but Silent Love continued to rally, holding on by a neck at the line.
Charlie Appleby said: “Silent Love stays well and that’s why Billy popped her out on the front end. Billy was aggressive enough for the first quarter-mile and then got into a rhythm. He said she was just lonely at the end and still very raw. You would hope that there is a bit more improvement to come, possibly with stepping up in trip.”
Billy Loughnane added: “The race went smoothly. I knew Silent Love would stay well from her last run, so I was keen to make use of her stamina. I rolled forward, she relaxed super and really fended them off well.
“There was a bit of a headwind, which worried me going out, but she was very tough. She is still inexperienced and, when they came to her, she rolled around a lot. I said afterwards that, had she been challenged on both sides all at once, I think we would have seen a better performance.
“I think she will appreciate a little more ease in the ground than there is today. It is proper summer ground, which is a little unusual for this meeting.”
