Third for Nations Pride in G1 Canadian International

Nations Pride finished third at G1 level in North America for a second consecutive start with a creditable effort in the Canadian International on Saturday, 4 October.
The Teofilo entire was bidding to defend his crown in the 12-furlong highlight, having won the previous edition over two furlongs shorter in 2023, and returned to Woodbine after chasing home El Cordobes and Rebel Red in Saratoga’s G1 Sword Dancer Stakes.
Rousted from the stalls by Billy Loughnane, Nations Pride soon disputed fourth before moving up to settle in a length-and-a-half second behind Silawi after the first two furlongs.
Silawi increased his advantage leaving the back for the final time and the son of Dubawi looked to have all nine of his rivals in trouble turning in, with Nations Pride unable to apply any pressure on the leader.
Nations Pride stuck to his task in the straight but the Charlie Appleby-trained six-year-old was collared for second by Tawny Port just inside the final half-furlong.
Tawny Port continued to charge home and was only a nose behind Silawi at the line, with a further length and three-quarters back to Nations Pride.
