Ancient Wisdom looks set to get his ideal conditions as he chases a fourth Group-race win in the G3 St Simon Stakes at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, 25 October.

All three of the four-year-old’s previous Pattern victories have come with give underfoot, including when scoring decisively on heavy ground in Doncaster’s G1 Futurity Trophy in October, 2023.

The son of Dubawi also ran well on soft ground to take third in November’s G1 Grosser Preis von Bayern and returns to a mile and a half after finishing a neck second in the 10-furlong Listed Foundation Stakes at Goodwood last month.

His trainer Charlie Appleby said: “Ancient Wisdom loves soft ground, and it looked at Goodwood as though the step back up to a mile and a half would suit. It is a tight race, with a few others who will also enjoy conditions, but he goes there in great nick.”

Time To Turn hopes to bounce back from the first disappointing run of his career when he drops back down in class for the G3 Horris Hill Stakes on the same card.

A 10-length winner at Wolverhampton in June, the Dark Angel colt defeated subsequent G3 winner A Bit Of Spirit in Ascot’s Listed Pat Eddery Stakes but trailed home eighth in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Arc weekend at Longchamp.

Charlie Appleby added: “The Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere was a bit of a headscratcher – Time To Turn looked as though he was going to come with a run and then he weakened out of it. He bounced out of the race in good form and conditions should suit.”
