Wise Approach far too strong for Rose Bowl rivals

G2 Norfolk Stakes runner-up Wise Approach capitalised on a drop down to Listed level with a convincing win in the Rose Bowl Stakes at Newbury, UK, on Friday, 18 July.
The Charlie Appleby-trained colt, a half-brother to multiple G1 winner Perfect Power, was dropped in at the rear of the field by William Buick and still had all four rivals in front of him with two furlongs to race.
Wise Approach quickened between runners to hit the front entering the final furlong and powered clear under a hands and heels ride to score by an easy four lengths over Rock On Thunder.
Charlie Appleby said: “It was a pleasing run from Wise Approach, who enjoyed stepping back up to six furlongs. He is improving mentally with each start and hopefully this can lead to a potential run in the G2 Gimcrack Stakes next month.”
William Buick added: “That was a nice performance from Wise Approach. He ran a good race at Ascot, where he was on a different side to the winner, and felt more comfortable back at six furlongs today. I liked what he did there – it was a nice, smooth performance.
“I think races like the Gimcrack Stakes and Middle Park Stakes should come into consideration. He looked a good deal better than the opposition there and I think he deserves to look at those targets. I think he will develop, as he is big and scopey, for all he has looked very natural from early on. He will keep getting better.”
