Chapman's Peak outbattled Outrunner in a sustained stretch duel for the G3 Commonwealth Turf Stakes, only to be collared in the shadow of the post by Giocoso in the Churchill Downs feature on Saturday, 22 November.

Seeking a third consecutive win on his Stakes debut, Chapman’s Peak was towards the head of affairs throughout the extended-mile contest, with Irad Ortiz Jr settling the Brad Cox-trained three-year-old in a three-quarter length second behind Outrunner.

The front two dictated throughout and Chapman’s Peak loomed up to dispute the lead turning into the straight. Outrunner rallied on the inside, with Chapman’s Peak establishing a slender advantage entering the final half-furlong before quickening away from his rival.

Giocoso flashed home from the rear of the field, getting up close home to score by a head over Chapman’s Peak, with a further length back to Outrunner.
