Excellent Sandringham second for Crown Walk

Crown Walk showed improved form to finish second in the G2 Prix de Sandringham over a mile at Chantilly, France, on Sunday, 3 June. 

This was the three-year-old Dubawi filly’s second French start and followed an impressive victory in a Saint-Cloud conditions race over the same distance on 14 May. 

Trained by Henri-Alex Pantall and ridden by Mickael Barzalona, Crown Walk broke well today but was held back in sixth of the seven runners on the inside and then dropped back to last.

She remained on the inner turning into the straight and was asked to improve just over two furlongs out.

Crown Walk moved up to third, was switched out with a half-furlong remaining and ran on well to take second to Mission Impossible, beaten three quarters of a length. The winner’s time was 1m 37.72s on ground described as soft.

Lisa-Jane Graffard of Godolphin reported: “Crown Walk is an improving filly and quickened nicely in the closing stages.

“This race was a big step up in class for her, but she has shown she has the class for the grade which is excellent news.

“She has a good turn of foot over a mile and we will discuss whether to remain at the distance or race over further. She is bred to stay a mile and quarter.”
