Highland Falls rallied to take second behind last season’s G1 Blue Grass Stakes winner Tapit Trice in the G3 Monmouth Cup on Saturday, 20 July.
Looking to follow up his victory in the G3 Blame Stakes, Highland Falls broke on terms in the Monmouth Park contest and held a slender early lead before settling on the inside behind Counterspy and Surface To Air.
Tapit Trice took closer order to pass Highland Falls after the first three furlongs, and the Brad Cox-trained four-year-old was shuffled further back when Khozeiress made a move around the field leaving the far turn.
Kuchar also briefly went by Highland Falls turning in, leaving the Godolphin colt sixth at the top of the straight. Florent Geroux galvanised Highland Falls, who stayed on to grab second from Counterspy late on and go down by just over five lengths to Tapit Trice.
