Poster goes down fighting in G3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes
Poster emerged with plenty of credit on his return to Graded Stakes company as he went down by a head to talented veteran Skippylongstocking in the G3 Harlan’s Holiday Stakes at Gulfstream Park, USA, on Sunday, 20 December.
The Eoin Harty-trained colt had captured the G2 Remsen Stakes at the end of his juvenile campaign but was forced off the Kentucky Derby trail after being diagnosed with a small condylar fracture in the spring.
After breaking half a stride slow, Poster raced at the rear of the seven runners as Hold My Bourbon went on into an uncontested lead.
Poster moved up a place down the back and quickened around rivals turning in, with Flavien Prat producing the Munnings homebred five-wide at the top of the straight.
Skippylongstocking and Poster soon quickened away from the field and duelled throughout the closing stages, with the six-year-old finding slightly more close home to notch a 10th Graded-race victory. The front two pulled five and a half lengths clear of Catalytic in third.
