Beautiful Love excelled with the step up to a mile and three furlongs as she flashed home to win the G3 Jockey Club Oaks at Aqueduct, USA, on Saturday, 14 September.

Sixth on her US debut in last month’s G2 Lake Placid Stakes, the Charlie Appleby-trained filly was a little slow leaving the stalls and settled in eighth as Macanga tore off into a 10-length lead.

Beautiful Love had six rivals in front of her at the top of the straight, although the Siyouni homebred started to make eye-catching headway after Dylan Davis switched her out.

Macanga came back to the field entering the final furlong, with Beautiful Love powering home down the centre of the course to collar Caldwell Luvs Gold and Just Deny in the closing strides and hit the line full of running.

Dylan Davis said: “I thought that Beautiful Love would break a little better, but she hopped out at the start, so I just bided my time. I knew going into the first turn that I had a lot of horse and needed to work with her and get her relaxed.

“I had to get into her at the three-eighths pole to get her gear going. Once she got into daylight down the lane, she really took it to them. I could have asked for more, but she was already doing enough, so I was just taking care of her.

“It’s a big difference compared to Europe with the crowd being a lot quieter over here. This was her second start in the States, which I think has a lot to do with it. It was really just working with her and trying to get the right trip. I was really happy to win for the Godolphin team.”
