Time To Turn back on right track in G3 Horris Hill Stakes
Time To Turn bounced back from a disappointing performance in France with a decisive victory in the G3 Horris Hill Stakes at Newbury, UK, on Saturday, 25 October.
The Charlie Appleby-trained colt appeared destined for big things after scoring by 10 lengths at Wolverhampton and taking the Listed Pat Eddery Stakes at Ascot in the summer but could only finish eighth in the G1 Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere on Longchamp’s Arc weekend.
Smartly into his stride, Time To Turn tracked Boiling Over, Arabian Desert and Pandemonium towards the stands side before finding himself fifth overall as all seven runners converged after a furlong and a half.
Time To Turn quickened powerfully between horses to lead just inside the final furlong and was kept up to his work by William Buick to beat Arabian Desert by two and a quarter lengths.
William Buick said: “Time To Turn didn’t run any sort of race in France last time, and he didn’t look a particularly tired horse afterwards, so Charlie and the team put a line through the run. This was much more like him – he’s a strong traveller and goes through the ground well – and there was never a moment of worry. He is quite a talented horse.”
Ancient Wisdom produced another good effort on soft ground as he went down by two and a half lengths to Hamish in the G3 St Simon Stakes on the same card.
The 2023 G1 Futurity Trophy winner, who was seeking a fourth Group-race win with give in the ground, tracked the leaders in fourth and travelled strongly to hit the front for William Buick passing the two-furlong pole.
Hamish tracked Ancient Wisdom and took up the running approaching the final half-furlong, with the Charlie Appleby-trained four-year-old keeping on to cross the line four and a quarter lengths in front of third home Sea Scout.
