Nash backed up the promise of a last-time-out Stakes win with a rallying second in the G2 Pat Day Mile at Churchill Downs, USA, on Saturday, 4 May.

The Brad Cox-trained colt, who took the Hot Springs Stakes at Oaklawn Park in March by five and a half lengths, broke smartly from a wide draw and tracked Vlahos over to dispute a close fourth on the outside of the field.

After moving up to third at the halfway point, Nash went second at the top of the straight before being pressed on both sides by Seize The Grey and Who Dey entering the final furlong.

Seize The Grey went on from Nash soon after and reeled in Vlahos, with the Godolphin runner seeing off the persistent challenge of Who Dey. Nash continued to battle for Florent Geroux, taking second from Vlahos on the line.

Florent Geroux said: “I thought I was in a good spot after half of a mile, but I hoped Nash would have finished stronger for me. When I asked him to run, it took him a little while to get the engine going. I was able to save second, but he had to fight very hard to get it.”
